Scale
- 1 Perfect Pie Crust Recipe
- ¼ cup butter
- 8 cups thinly sliced apples (peeled and cored)
- 2/3 cup lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon water

Instructions
- Prepare the pie plate: Set aside a 9-inch pie plate and preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

- Make the egg wash: Whisk egg and water in a small bowl.
- Assemble the pie: Pour the cooled apple mixture into the crust, roll out the second dough, and cover the filling. Cut vents if using a full coverage.
- Seal and vent: Trim excess dough, crimp edges, and ensure sealing.
- Apply the egg wash: Brush the pie with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
- Bake the pie: Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes, then lower to 350°F and bake for an additional 40 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool before serving: Allow the pie to cool before slicing.
