A simple and delicious apple pie filling made with fresh apples and warm spices, perfect for pies and other desserts.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups peeled, sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water or apple juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, mix the sliced apples with brown sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), cornstarch, and water or apple juice until apples are coated.
  2. Place the skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently until the apples become tender and the mixture starts to bubble, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the butter until melted.
  4. Allow the filling to cool slightly before using in a pie or serving over ice cream or pancakes.

Notes

Use firm apples for best results. Adjust sweetness and spices to taste. Consider freezing leftovers for future use.
