Instructions
- In a large skillet, mix the sliced apples with brown sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), cornstarch, and water or apple juice until apples are coated.
- Place the skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently until the apples become tender and the mixture starts to bubble, about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the butter until melted.
- Allow the filling to cool slightly before using in a pie or serving over ice cream or pancakes.
Notes
Use firm apples for best results. Adjust sweetness and spices to taste. Consider freezing leftovers for future use.
