Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and butter until warm; then add to the dry ingredients.
- Beat in the eggs, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
- Place the loaf in a greased loaf pan and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Let the bread cool completely.
- For the glaze, mix the powdered sugar and milk until smooth, then drizzle it over the bread.
- Add sprinkles if desired.
Notes
Make sure the milk and butter mixture is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast. Knead well for a fluffier bread. Consider adding dried fruits or using orange zest for flavor variations.
