Hamburger Potato Casserole

A comforting one-dish meal combining ground beef, potatoes, and cheese, perfect for busy nights or gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (lean mix 85/15)
  • 4 medium potatoes (russet or Yukon gold, peeled and sliced thin)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 to 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Garlic powder (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat for 7 to 10 minutes until fully browned and drain excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion to the skillet and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until translucent.
  4. Season beef-onion mix with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, cooking for another minute.
  5. Layer half of the thinly sliced potatoes in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, season with salt and pepper. Spread the beef-onion mix evenly over the potatoes.
  6. Add the remaining potato slices on top, then whisk milk and melted butter together and pour over the layers.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Let the casserole rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve hot or pair with a green salad for added freshness. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
