- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 large egg, for egg wash
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm milk and yeast; let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and combine.
- Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle and place the cold butter on one half. Fold the other half over and seal the edges.
- Roll the dough out into a long rectangle and fold it in thirds. Repeat this process 3-4 times to create layers.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle again and cut into triangles.
- Roll each triangle from the base to the tip and place on a baking sheet.
- Let them rise for about 1-2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Brush the croissants with the egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly and enjoy with coffee or jam!
Notes
Ensure butter is cold for perfect flakiness. Let croissants cool completely before storing.
