Reuben Balls with Spicy Thousand Island Dipping Sauce

Delicious and fun appetizer combining the classic flavors of a Reuben sandwich into crispy, bite-sized balls.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cooked corned beef, shredded
  • 1 cup sauerkraut, drained and chopped
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine shredded corned beef, chopped sauerkraut, shredded Swiss cheese, softened cream cheese, caraway seeds, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix the ingredients together until well combined and sticking together.
  3. Form small balls from the mixture, about the size of a golf ball.
  4. Coat the balls in breadcrumbs, then dip each into beaten eggs, and roll in breadcrumbs again for extra crunch.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C) and fry the balls in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. While frying, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, hot sauce, and additional seasonings in a separate bowl for the dipping sauce.
  7. Once cooked, drain the Reuben Balls on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with the spicy dipping sauce on the side.
