- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning

- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1 celery stalk, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (halal version if needed)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup chicken or seafood stock (or vegetable stock for a lighter version)
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- Lemon wedges for serving
- Cooked white rice, grits, or crusty bread for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss the shrimp with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper if you want more heat. Let it sit while you prepare the other ingredients.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add diced onion, bell pepper, and celery. Sauté until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cayenne, thyme, oregano, stock, hot sauce, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it bubble for about 5 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Add the seasoned shrimp to the sauce. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook them.
- Remove from heat and stir in the fresh parsley. Serve your Spicy Voodoo Shrimp with lemon wedges alongside cooked rice, grits, or crusty bread.

Adjust the spices based on your heat tolerance and feel free to add ingredients like okra or tomatoes for extra flavor.
